5G Mobile Proxies Explained: Speed, Latency, and Real-World Benchmarks

5G mobile proxies promise faster speeds and lower latency than 4G, but how do they actually perform when routing proxy traffic through a real Verizon cell tower? We ran a series of benchmarks across MobileHop's 5G and 4G nodes to find out.

What Makes 5G Different for Proxy Users

5G operates on higher-frequency bands that deliver significantly more bandwidth than 4G LTE. For proxy users, this translates to faster page loads during scraping, quicker ad verification cycles, and more responsive browsing sessions. MobileHop's 5G nodes run on Verizon's C-band and mmWave spectrum where available.

Test Methodology

We tested download speed, upload speed, latency (TTFB), and connection stability across 10 US cities using both MobileHop 4G and 5G endpoints. Each test ran 50 iterations over HTTP and SOCKS5 to account for variance. We also compared against two popular residential proxy providers.

Speed and Latency Results

5G nodes averaged 120-180 Mbps download vs 50-80 Mbps on 4G. Latency dropped from an average of 45ms on 4G to 18ms on 5G. Residential proxies averaged 25-40 Mbps with 80-120ms latency. The difference is most noticeable for high-throughput tasks like scraping JavaScript-heavy pages or downloading large datasets.

When to Choose 5G vs 4G

5G is ideal for speed-sensitive work: large-scale scraping, real-time ad verification, and API data collection. 4G remains the better choice for use cases where IP diversity and city coverage matter more than raw speed, since 4G towers cover more locations. Both share the same trust level with platforms since they route through real Verizon carrier infrastructure.

Whether you need the raw throughput of 5G or the broader coverage of 4G, MobileHop gives you both on the same Verizon network with the same EasyPort connection. Try our 5G nodes today and see the difference in your workflow.
